Teen remains in school in spite of disturbing report Teen tells officials killing animals "funny", likes "shooting their heads off", admires Va. Tech shooter web posted April 25, 2007 JOHNSTON – A 14-year-old JET Middle School student is the focus of a police report requested by EdgefieldDaily.com after receiving several e-mails from worried parents of students at the school. In the report the child is reported as telling school officials that the Virginia Tech shooter, Choe, was his best friend and that he could learn from Choe. Even more disturbing are comments he made saying he found killing animals “funny” and that he liked “shooting their heads off” and wishing he could “spend all day with the devil”. In spite of the report, witness accounts, and written statements school officials are allowing the teen to stay in school. Edgefield County School Superintendent Dr. Sharon Keesley said Tuesday that the teen, “does not pose a threat to himself or anyone else,” and that the report was made in an effort to force the Department of Social Services to get involved with the student’s home situation. Dr. Keesley said the student is a “Special Ed” student. Investigators with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office said they are looking into the case but no direct threats were made towards anyone and that the Department of Social Services is also investigating the case. At this writing school officials said they have no intentions of removing the student from the school population. Choe Suing Hui, the Virginia Tech shooter, reportedly made similar comments prior to the massacre that claimed the lives of 31 students when he praised the Columbine High School killers as martyrs. However, even with heightened awareness to threats and behavior traits of troubled students after the Virginia Tech shooting, the Edgefield County School District is not acting on the disturbing situation and the teen is considered a "victim" in the report.
