Jolly to Chair “Foundation of Edgefield County Public Schools” Initiative

web posted May 17, 2008
JOHNSTON – Over the course of the past months Dr. Crenshaw has studied the implementation of an Educational Foundation for the Edgefield County School District. She researched the groundwork involved, and spent a great deal of time talking with both Newberry County and Charleston County Foundation managers to learn what their key of success was based upon.

Both Foundations said the “key” ingredient in a successful program is filling the position of Chairman. This individual must have the desire and commitment level needed for the job. The second most important factor is the selection of the appropriate board members with the unique qualities needed for such a task.

Friday, Dr. Mary R. Crenshaw, Superintendent of Edgefield County Schools, announced that Mr. Joel Jolly has accepted the call to serve as Chairman of the Foundation of Edgefield County Public Schools – “Investing in our children, Investing in our Future.”

Mr. Jolly, a local businessman, is a 1977 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School and enjoys being involved in the community. He has had several planning sessions with Dr. Crenshaw to begin laying out the path work for what will be one of the strongest supportive arms for students and educators in the system.

Mr. Jolly said the establishment of the foundation is to enhance and encourage public understanding and support of K-12 public education in Edgefield County through the cooperative efforts of local educational foundations.

“The Foundation for Edgefield County Public Schools will be dedicated to providing resources to improve and enhance the educational opportunities available to all students”, said Mr. Jolly and continued, “The belief is that an investment in our children is an investment in our community and in our future.”

The school district is now in the process of incorporating the organization, along with Mr. Jolly seeking placement of board members.

“We are extremely excited to have Mr. Jolly accept the position of Chairman for the local educational foundation. He has a deep desire to see that students from all areas of the system have every opportunity available to help them experience great success,” said Dr. Crenshaw.
