Reception honors Dr. Sharon Keesley for 34 years of local service

web posted May 21, 2007
JOHNSTON – A reception for retiring Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Sharon Keesley, was held Sunday afternoon at the Strom Thurmond High School with dignitaries, co-workers, and friends turning out to thank Dr. Keesley for her 37 years of service to Edgefield County. SC Senator Tommy Moore and Rep. Bill Clyburn both presented Dr. Keesley with proclamations from their respective legislative bodies acknowledging her service.

School Board Chairwoman Sallie Cooks also presented Dr. Keesley with a inscribed crystal vase to mark the occasion in addition to a necklace from the “ladies” on the school board.

Strom Thurmond Athletic Director Doug Painter, who called Dr. Keesley “our strongest supporter”, presented her with a framed football jersey worn during the 2006 state championship game emblazoned with “Keesley” on the back. (Left)

Dr. Keesley spoke briefly thanking everyone for turning out and for supporting her through the years. Keesley said afterwards she was “happy and sad” to see the day of her retirement come. “I am going to enjoy it,” Dr. Keesley said.

EdgefieldDaily.com would also like to extend out sincere appreciation for Dr. Keesley’s selfless dedication to the schools and students of Edgefield County. She will be sorely missed.
