Google search leads to possibvle rejection of job offer of Assistant
Principle at
MES
web
posted July 23, 2009
COUNTY – Within hours of the Edgefield
County School Board voting to hire Greg Morris as the Assistant
Principle of Merriwether Elementary, parents and teachers began to
“Google” the names of those hired - including Morris. What many found
disturbed them and they began contacting school board members with
concerns of an arrest of Morris for indecent exposure and possession of
drugs and paraphernalia in 2006 at a North Carolina Principals and
Assistant Principals Fall Leadership conference at Atlantic
Beach.
According to an Atlantic Beach Police Department press release, a
security guard called police after they got a complaint of Morris
standing naked on a hotel room balcony touching himself
inappropriately. When police arrested Morris they also found a small
amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The Brunswick County school board voted on randomly testing the
district's employees for drugs three months after North Brunswick High
School Assistant Principal Greg
Morris was charged with possession of
marijuana and indecent exposure while attending the school-related
conference in Atlantic Beach, N.C.
As EdgefieldDaily.com began receiving complaints about the arrest, we
did our own search and found several stories reporting the arrest, but
we have been unable to confirm any conviction of the charges.
According to information obtained by EdgefieldDaily.com, the contract
that was voted to be offered to Morris may be rescinded because
of the reports. A school district official, on condition of anonymity,
confirmed that the Greg Morris that was offered the position is the
same Greg Morris that was named in the news articles that were widely
reported.
The Edgefield County School District does a background check of
potential hires through the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
(SLED) for charges in South Carolina; however, records from other
states are not included in the search.
The Edgefield County School District has yet to formally announce that
the offer has been rejected. EdgefieldDaily.com will continue to follow
this developing story and will report additional information as it is
made
available.
