Records of arrest no longer exist
web
posted July 24, 2009
COUNTY – All records associated with the
2006 arrest of Greg Morris for
indecent exposure and drug possession at
a North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals Fall Leadership
conference at Atlantic Beach are gone. It appears that the reports and
booking photo have been expunged from the official record. However, the
record of the arrest and the incident are still available on the
internet. At this time it is unknown if the charges were dropped,
reduced, or found guilty with conditions that would allow the record to
be expunged after a time period.
It remains unknown if the Edgefield County School Board will continue
with their effort to hire Morris as the vice principal for Merriwether
Elementary. If in fact the records have been expunged, legally it is as
if the incident never occurred.
However, the arrest and the stories reporting the reason for the arrest
were already being emailed throughout the county Tuesday night after
the School Board meeting announcing the names of those chosen to fill
four administrative positions. By Wednesday morning school board
members phones began to ring. EdgefieldDaily.com received calls
throughout the day about the situation as parents, and some teachers,
voiced serious concerns about the selection of Morris due to the widely
read articles on the internet.
After reading the reports online, and confirming that the man named
therein was the one chosen as the prospective hire for Merriwether
Elementary, it was obvious why such strong feelings were prevalent.
Although the official records are no longer available, media outlets
that reported on the arrest and received a press release from the
Atlantic Beach Police Department at the time are being contacted in an
effort to obtain the original incident report which would contain the
information officers used to determine the charges were warranted.
Officially, however, the incident and arrest never happened.
