  Workshop On Understanding Poverty Held web posted September 15, 2009  JOHNSTON – Teachers,
parent educators and
coaches with the Peach Literacy Grant Program attended a workshop on
understanding poverty with presenter Sue Nell DeHart recently. The
workshop addressed the issue of how poverty impacts learning, work
habits and decision making and is based on the book A Framework for
Understanding Poverty by Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D., a leading US expert on
the mindset of poverty, middle class and wealth.The local educators received information on the pitfalls and barriers faced by all classes, especially those in poverty. Valuable strategies were learned for use to address the understanding of poverty as well as suggested support to becoming effective in working with those in poverty.
