posted September 30, 2008
COUNTY – The
2008-2009 school and district
grant recipients were found “In The Spotlight” at the September 23,
2008 Edgefield County Board of Trustees meeting. The grand announcement
of a total of $4,591,240.00 in grant monies received throughout the
schools and community sounded a loud round of applause and
congratulations to these educators and community leaders who have gone
above and beyond to secure extra funding for projects.
Dr. Myrtis Walker called each recipient forward and Dr. Crenshaw,
Superintendent and Mrs. Sallie Cooks, EC Board Chairperson presented
each one with a plaque. Grant recipients recognized were: Julie
Jackson, Douglas Elementary; Kay Campbell, Johnston Elementary; Judy
Simpson and Mandy Lowe, Merriwether Elementary; Angela McLaurin, Cherie
Griffin and Dana Kaltz, W.E. Parker Elementary; Debbie Courtney and
Susie Yonce, JET Middle School; Jaime Bryan, Natalie Dandy, Cindy Grose
and Debbie McCain from Merriwether Middle School; Penny Morris, Lee
Williams and Denise Jackson from Strom Thurmond High School; Connie
Shannon, Strom Thurmond Career Center; Lena Baker from Johnston
Learning Center, Doris Gonzales, Lauren Wilson and Nancy Cowart from
Fox Creek and Chanda Abraham of Old Macedonia Baptist Church accepting
the 21st Century After School Program grand that was written by Dr.
Mary Crenshaw. Also recognized for their participation on the District
Grants Committee Team were: Hugh Bland, STCC, Wanda Wates and Angelyn
Dorn-W.E. Parker Elementary; Donna Wilkes-Merriwether Elementary and
Cynthia Smith from Fox Creek.
A district-wide grants committee was formed last school year under the
direction of Dr. Walker’s department and has served as the catalyst to
assist colleagues in their schools and community members with the work
of writing and submitting grants.
Congratulations to these educators and community leaders for their
commitment to education.
