New leadership tapped for Johnston and Douglas Elementary

web posted September 30, 2008
COUNTY – The Edgefield County Board of Trustees unanimously approved the recommendation of Superintendent Mary R. Crenshaw to name Mr. Bruce Lee as Principal of Johnston Elementary and Mrs. Cherya Clark, Principal of Douglas Elementary at the September 23, 2008 Board Meeting.

The interview team of local administrators and teachers, established by Dr. Crenshaw, interviewed eight candidates from within the district and outside the district for the positions.

Mr. Lee will be replacing Mrs. Bridget Clark, former Principal of Johnston Elementary who has been named as Director of the Reading First Program for the District. He began his educational career as a Behavior Disorder Teacher at Douglas Elementary in February of 1994. In 1999 he became Assistant Principal of Johnston Elementary and served in that position for eight years. He was named Douglas Elementary Principal in 2007.    Mr. Lee received his BS in Elementary Education from South Carolina State and his Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina in 2003.

He will begin his duties as Principal of Johnston Elementary immediately.

Mrs. Clark has served as Assistant Principal for Douglas Elementary since 2006. Prior to this administrative position she was an elementary teacher from 1998-2006.  She received her BS in Elementary Education from Lander University in 1998, her Masters of Science in Education, Educational Administration from Clemson University in December of 2004. She is presently working on her Educational Specialist, Educational Leadership Degree from Augusta State University.

Mrs. Clark will begin her duties as Principal of Douglas Elementary immediately.

“I feel that the best selections for the continued leadership of both our local elementary schools were made,” said Dr. Crenshaw and continued, “Mr. Lee is very familiar with the students and staff of Johnston Elementary and Mrs. Clark has the leadership skills to continue to advancement of Douglas Elementary.”
