New leadership tapped for Johnston and Douglas Elementary

COUNTY – The Edgefield County Board of
Trustees unanimously approved the recommendation of Superintendent Mary
R. Crenshaw to name Mr. Bruce Lee as Principal of Johnston Elementary
and Mrs. Cherya Clark, Principal of Douglas Elementary at the September
23, 2008 Board Meeting.
The interview team of local administrators and teachers, established by
Dr. Crenshaw, interviewed eight candidates from within the district and
outside the district for the positions.
Mr. Lee will be replacing Mrs. Bridget Clark, former Principal of
Johnston Elementary who has been named as Director of the Reading First
Program for the District. He began his educational career as a Behavior
Disorder Teacher at Douglas Elementary in February of 1994. In 1999 he
became Assistant Principal of Johnston Elementary and served in that
position for eight years. He was named Douglas Elementary Principal in
2007. Mr. Lee received his BS in Elementary Education
from South Carolina State and his Master of Education in Educational
Administration from the University of South Carolina in 2003.
He will begin his duties as Principal of Johnston Elementary
immediately.
Mrs. Clark has served as Assistant Principal for Douglas Elementary
since 2006. Prior to this administrative position she was an elementary
teacher from 1998-2006. She received her BS in Elementary
Education from Lander University in 1998, her Masters of Science in
Education, Educational Administration from Clemson University in
December of 2004. She is presently working on her Educational
Specialist, Educational Leadership Degree from Augusta State University.
Mrs. Clark will begin her duties as Principal of Douglas Elementary
immediately.
“I feel that the best selections for the continued leadership of
both our local elementary schools were made,” said Dr. Crenshaw and
continued, “Mr. Lee is very familiar with the students and staff of
Johnston Elementary and Mrs. Clark has the leadership skills to
continue to advancement of Douglas Elementary.”
