web
posted November 27, 2007
JOHNSTON – Three local citizens were
special guests at the last Edgefield County School District Board of
Trustees meeting to present donations to county schools through various
fund raising projects and an incentive program.
Mr. Joel Jolly, Chairman of the Edgefield Heritage Jubilee presented
the district with a $6,000 check from funds raised at the local
festival to go towards the “Children’s Book Program”.
The Heritage
Jubilee Committee selected the “Children’s Book Program” as their
charitable project. The money is designated to assist with the purchase
of library books for all elementary schools. This is the second year
that the Heritage Jubilee proceeds have gone to elementary schools.
Ms. Suzanne White, Scan Coordinator for Bi-Lo and representing Mr. Olin
Holden, Store Manager was present to inform the board of the
presentation from the “Ten Days of Giving Campaign” sponsored by Bi-Lo
stores throughout the CSRA region. This award was presented on Thursday
November 15. The local Edgefield Bi-Lo raised $8,693.00 through
raffles, hot dog sales and other in store activities for a charitable
donation to elementary schools. The donation will assist elementary
schools with the purchase of library books.
Mr. Dean Campbell, Chairman of the local United Way presented a $500.00
to Johnston Elementary for being the top fund raising school in the
district to assist the local United Way Campaign. Mr. Campbell
said that the incentive program, offered to all schools, made a
difference in this year’s campaign and he hopes the program will gain
more interest in the years to come.
Following the presentations, Dr. Mary Crenshaw, Superintendent
expressed appreciation to each representative for their generous
support of local schools. She presented each a certificate as well as a
“Team” lapel pin, indicating the strengths of teamwork for the support
of students.
