Johnston Man Arrested after Attack in Home Stands at Rebel Football Game

web posted November 27, 2012

JOHNSTON – A Johnston man was arrested during Friday night's football game at Strom Thurmond after he attacked a 50-year-old female relative. Dwight Alan Lott, 22, began the attack around 9:40 pm in the home field stands. A nearby Sheriff's Deputy and an off duty police officer restrained him until additional deputies could respond to their calls for help.

As a third deputy made it to the location in the stands the other two had Lott being held down. When they tried to get him to stand up to be taken into custody he refused. After being ordered to stand Lott did stand up and then "slapped" the woman in her face. One of the deputies the deployed his Tazer, which malfunctioned. The cartridge was removed and the deputy attempted to "drive stun" the man but the Tazer malfunctioned again.

With the help of several others, Lott was finally taken into custody and removed from the stands. He was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of assault and battery in the third degree and disturbing school.

An incident report released on Monday did not state if the woman was injured in the attack.

This is not the first time an arrest has been made at Strom Thurmond sports activities. Seven students were arrested following a pep rally on October 5 after a fight broke out near the busses as the students were leaving the field..
