The Education Accountability Act of 1998 mandates the end-of-course tests. In math, students enrolled in Algebra 1 courses and Mathematics for the Technologies 2 takes the algebra end-of-course test. Content standards for both courses are the same. Similarly, students enrolled in Biology 1 and Applied Biology 2 take the same end-of-course test in biology; content standards for both courses are the same. English 1 and Physical Science end-of-course round out the four tests. U.S. History and Constitution tests will be added in this current school year but will not be used as a student accountability measure until the following year. We are however examining the Physical Science results. It appears that the state test does not match the state content standards which results in a poorly designed test. As such, parents should not be alarmed by the results. As we report this, the state is attempting to fix this problem with the alignment to state content standards.” He concluded, “We encourage students to take classroom instruction very seriously because it is in the classroom where skills and knowledge are made available for students to perform well on these test.” For
