Two
arrested in theft from Johnston employer
web posted January 19, 2006 EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County Investigator Phil Ireland said Wednesday that he has wrapped up an investigation of theft by employees at a Johnston business and arrested two employees. Felicia Nichole West, 19 of Courtney Road in Trenton, and her 17 year-old cousin, of a Walker Street address in Johnston, were arrested on charges stemming from the alleged theft of more than $800 since November of 2005. The owner of The Chicken Place in Johnston began noticing a drop in sales, but not a drop in product missing from the cooler. The owner began reviewing sales receipts and video surveillance tapes of the store and found two employees taking money. The case was turned over to Investigator Ireland and after his interviewing the two women; each gave a written statement admitting to voiding out sales and taking the money. Investigator Ireland said the charges against the two women are misdemeanors. After reviewing the tapes and the statements by the two women, warrants for their arrest were issued and the two were taken into custody on Tuesday, Investigator Ireland said. The total loss from the business is estimated by the owner to be around two or three thousand dollars, but since previous tapes have been recorded over only the most recent thefts are included in court documents. A court date for Ms. West and the 17 year-old was not available at this writing. For
