Wanted Johnston man arrested after tip

web posted January 27, 2007

COUNTY –Dewayne Langford, 30, of Johnston has been taken into custody Friday afternoon. Langford was initially taken into custody in Johnston after a drug raid conducted by Johnston Police, the Sheriff’s Office, and a drug task force from neighboring counties in late September. Langford, Aiken County officials later released, was in the process of helping authorities make additional busts when he escaped.

While in North Augusta, and being seated in the back of an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics SUV with the keys in the ignition, Langford reportedly climbed from the back seat while officers were outside of the vehicle and sped away. The SUV was later discovered in abandoned in Augusta.

A tip on Friday led Summerville Police to Langford where he was taken into custody. Langford faces charges in Aiken County for the theft of the SUV and the original drug charges in Johnston.

Sources indicate Mr. Langford may not face escape charges since he had not been booked into custody at the time.

There were no indications as to when Langford will be returned to Edgefield County to face the initial charges.
