Cooper Guilty: Three years for taped beating of naked foster child web posted February 4, 2009  EDGEFIELD – The case of Belinda Cooper, a
foster home mother accused of beating a nude 12-year-old foster child
and captured on video in February of 2007, was brought to an end on
Tuesday. Mrs. Cooper plead guilty a single count of assault and battery
of a high and aggravated nature before Circuit Court Judge William
Keesley who asked, “are you guilty of this?” Mrs. Cooper replied, “Yes
sir.” Under a plea agreement worked out between Mrs. Cooper’s lawyer and the Solicitor’s Office she was sentenced to three years in state prison. In a surprise to court observers Judge Keesley gave Mrs. Cooper until Friday at 9 am to turn herself in to begin serving her sentence. The abuse case drew wide media attention when EdgefieldDaily.com broke the story at the time of the arrest. The video, which reportedly had three separate incidences where Mrs. Cooper beat the young boy with a wooden paddle and a belt while he was nude, was described as brutal and disturbing. The contents of the video were never made public. Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature caries a penalty of up to ten years in prison. © Copyright 2009
