Sheriff’s Investigators nab wanted man
web
posted March 27, 2009
EDGEFIELD –
Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Investigators arrested a wanted man Thursday at the Amoco Station as he
prepared to get gas at the Main Street store Thursday around 1 pm.
Daniel Russell Reel, 57, was arrested without incident after
confirmation of a warrant for his arrest in Saluda County for a false
report of a stolen US Treasury check being cashed in Saluda County - a
check that he also reported stolen in a report of a burglary at his
home on Hunters Run in Edgefield on February 5 of this year.
In a report
carried by EdgefieldDaily.com, Reel told Sheriff’s
Investigators that an unknown person or persons burglarized his home
stealing $5,826 in various household items including a Glock handgun
and the check for over $2,000.
The investigation lead to the discovery that a third party had cashed
the check at the behest of Mr. Reel and the money was returned to him,
resulting in the warrant for his arrest by Saluda County.
The reported burglary of his home is still under investigation.
Mr. Reel is already facing similar charges in Edgefield County after a
report he filed against a complainant of a near $50,000 criminal breech
of trust case against him. In that case Reel called to report the
victim in the breech of trust case came into his home and robbed and
assaulted him. When the charges were found to be false, he was arrested.
Reel was in court in February when Judge Knox McMahon removed the
Public Defender from Reel’s case when it was discovered he owned over
100 acres of land with a clear title, a home, and had income
sufficient, in the court’s eyes, to provide for his own defense in the
cases pending against him.
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said a second
charge of filing a false police report in Edgefield County could be
pending against Mr. Reel pending discussions with the Solicitor’s
Office.
