  Jones held without bond in rape of 9-year-old web posted April 12, 2008  EDGEFIELD – George
Albert Jones, 41, who
was arrested on a first degree criminal sexual conduct charge of a
nine-year-old girl on Thursday, in addition to other sex crimes, has
been denied bond and will remain in custody at the Edgefield County
Detention Center until trial jail officials said Friday.Currently Mr. Jones is facing three felony sex charges that, if convicted, could land him in prison for the rest of his life. Due to the age of his victim, and previous convictions, Jones was not considered eligible for bond and other possible charges may be brought before a grand jury prior to trial one source stated. There were also extenuating circumstances in the case that led the judge to refuse the plea for a bond on Friday. Jones will still have to face a Circuit Court Judge for another bond hearing, though no date for that was available. No court date for trial has been set at this time. According to court records this is not the first sex crime Jones has been charged with. In October of 1994 Jones was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and plead guilty in November of the same year to a lesser charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was sentenced to 30 days time served and placed on two years probation. Jones is also facing a current drug charge from October 13, of 2006 for possession of crack cocaine second offence. He was indicted on the charge by the grand jury in March of last year court records show. A full counting of Jones’s criminal history has not been provided at this time.
