One arrested in Trenton burglary, second man sought Edgefield County Sheriff's Investigators solve violent crime in a matter of hours web posted April 21, 2007 BETTIS ACADEMY – Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigators have made an arrest late Friday afternoon in the early morning burglary of an elderly Trenton couple. In the burglary the elderly couple was held at gunpoint while the two men stole several guns, thousands of rounds of ammo, cash, and one of the couple’s cars. A Sheriff’s Investigator spotted the car around 6 am on Highway 25 and a high-speed chase ensued before the two men crashed the car and escaped on foot. Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigator Randy Doran confirmed that Rio Tyrone Bing Jr., 20, of the 1300 block of Bettis Academy Road was arrested around 6:30 pm Friday and has been charged with first-degree burglary. Several of the guns stolen were recovered after the arrest. Two guns were recovered at the scene of the crash. Investigators are still searching for a second suspect and the remaining missing guns. Investigator Doran said evidence collected in the case allowed them to track some of the movements of the two men after the burglary. Video surveillance footage was obtained from at least one location visited by the two men which led to the identification of both men he said. Investigator Jimmy Smith said a hat recovered at the scene of the car crash matched one worn in the surveillance tape by one of the two men. Sheriff’s Investigators staked out the home of Tyrone Bing Jr. and he was arrested after he arrived home Friday evening. Some of the guns were found in an abandoned house located across the street from the home of Bing’s grandmother, where he resided. Bing was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center where he is currently being interviewed. Investigators say Mr. Bing is being cooperative. Investigator Doran said they are seeking a second man in connection to the case. Keith Rocquell Thomas, 17, of Academy Estates, Trenton, has a warrant for his arrest for burglary in the first degree. If you have any information to Mr. Thomas’ whereabouts you are asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. Investigator Doran said additional charges are pending against both men including grand larceny, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. The Solicitor’s Office is expected to review the case on Monday and determine if kidnapping charges may also apply Inv. Smith said. More charges may also be filed pending the outcome of the investigation. Inv. Smith, who began working on the case at 2 am Friday morning, said "It was eighteen hours from the burglary until the first arrest. It's been a long day," Authorities are hoping Mr. Thomas will turn himself in and avoid making the situation worse. For
