Sheriff Dobey invited to attend Georgia statewide Unified Command training

Staff reporting

Edgefield County Sheriff Adell Dobey has been invited to attend a Georgia statewide training in Unified Command for law enforcement and EMS directors across the state. The training and seminars will be held June 6th and 7th in Augusta, Georgia.

Sheriff Dobey said, “They have invited the Sheriff’s of Edgefield and Aiken Counties, along with our support staff, because we area located just across the river from Augusta and need to be able to have a continuity of operations in the event of a terrorist or biochemical event that could affect both states.” Sheriff Dobey said they already have a very good working relationship with bordering counties in both states with law enforcement working together in solving and stopping criminal activities and that this brings in the EMA and EMS also. “I think it is crucial we have this type of relationship,” he said referring to bringing all areas (EMS, EMA, and Law Enforcement) of contingency planners together.

Joining Sheriff Dobey as a part of his team will be the Sheriff’s Training Officer, head of road patrol, one of the senior Emergency 911 operators, and Mike Casey, Edgefield County EMA Director.

The training is part of the Homeland Security efforts to prepare for worst case scenarios so that in the event of a crisis everyone knows what needs to be done and by whom. It also provides for contingency plans in the event someone was to attack or try to disable the communication infrastructure in the law enforcement and/or EMS.
