Edgefield man held on drug charges after armed robbery investigation in Trenton

web posted April 27, 2010
EDGEFIELD – The identity of a man taken into custody shortly after the armed robbery at Billy’s Superstore Saturday night has been identified as Maurice De’andre Williams, 22, of Eastview Street in Edgefield. Williams was stopped after being spotted leaving the Crossroads Motel on Oscar Drive, located next door to the crime scene, shortly after the burglary and was driving with no headlights on approaching Highway 121.

Williams also drew the attention of a Sheriff’s Deputy driving the perimeter after the crime because Williams reportedly matched the description of one of the robbers.

After being stopped Williams could not produce a driver’s license and was detained for traffic charges and as part of the robbery investigation, reports state. During the initial investigation, Williams raised his feet and a clear plastic baggie containing what deputies believed to be drugs fell out of his shoe. A second baggie of possible drugs also dropped from the shoes and Williams was placed under arrest.

According to reports, one baggie contained what is believed to be marijuana and the second powder cocaine.

Williams has been charged with possession of cocaine 2nd offense, possession of marijuana 2nd offense, operating a vehicle without headlights, and no drivers license in possession.

At this time Williams has not been listed or named as a suspect in the armed robbery, but he remains in custody at the Edgefield County Detention Center as of Monday night on the unrelated charges.
