Johnston woman arrested in alleged $19,000 theft

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted July 8, 2005

Tina Smallwood, 42, of Johnston was arrested on charges of Grand Theft greater than $5000 June 29, 2005. She was booked into the Edgefield County jail and has already been released.

Ms. Smallwood is accused in the theft of $19,000 in cash from a Johnston man who claims he had the money stashed behind a water heater and says Ms. Smallwood was the only one in the house since he had last checked on the money. Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputy Key made the arrest.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department has not issued a statement on the case as the investigation is ongoing. The case is being handled by veteran Investigator Randy Doran.

Persons we spoke with on the street who said they knew of the couple’s situation said Ms. Smallwood is disputing the charges. They also said Ms. Smallwood has returned to living in the home the alleged theft occurred. Neither was able to be confirmed.
