Councilman foils robbery Updated Edgefielddaily.com web posted July 12, 2005 TRENTON - Edgefield County Councilman Willie Bright interrupted a burglary early Sunday morning at his coin laundry business located at the corner of Highway 25 and Community Road. According to investigators Mr. Bright alerted the Sheriff’s Department around 1:30 am, Sunday, of a break-in at the business. Mr. Bright said he noticed the individuals loitering around the area and left only to arrive back in 30 or 40 minutes later to catch two individuals inside the building. Mr. Bright said, “I backed up (the car) and got my shotgun out of the trunk and called 9-1-1.” Mr. Mabry surrendered to Mr. Bright. Edgefield County Deputies arrived at the scene a short time later and arrested Quinn Mabry, 24 and later a 16 year old juvenile who is not named due to his age. The youth was hiding under a table and was discovered after several searches of the building. Mr. Mabry is being charged with burglary and larceny in the second degree. Charges on the juvenile may be raised to the level to charge the youth as an adult, “We might try to wave him up as an adult,” Investigator Doran told Edgefield daily.com. This was not the first break-in the juvenile is suspected in. On July 7, 2005 someone broke into Mr. Bright’s business and made off with about $200 in change. Investigators say the youth may be involved in that crime also. When arrested the juvenile had over $17 in quarters on his person presumed to have been taken from the business. “I’ve had two or three break-ins in the last few weeks,” Mr. Bright told Edgefield Daily.com. The juvenile is being held in Columbia, SC, “Due to him being a minor we can’t hold him here,” Investigator Doran said. More charges are possible against the pair. Mr. Bright said the worst part of the whole thing is, "they will tear up a couple hundred dollars worth of equipment to get five dollars." Return to Main Page
