Four arrested on drug charges

EDGEFIELD - The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department issued a release yesterday announcing the arrest of four men on distribution or trafficking cocaine, crack cocaine, and or marijuana charges. According to the release the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office conducted a raid on June 22, 2005 at a residence located at 17 Shay Street in Edgefield.

The raid was conducted by the Sheriff’s SWAT Team along with members of the Edgefield-Saluda-McCormick Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force and the Edgefield Police Department.

Discovered in the home was a “large quantity of both powder and crack cocaine,” as well several handguns and approximately three hundred dollars in cash. Arrested were Brandon Simpkins, 20, Julius Griffin, 19, and a 15 year old juvenile. Mr. Simpkins and Mr. Griffin have been charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Trafficking in Crack Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Distribute within a half-mile of a School. They were also charged with the possession of a firearm during the commission of a Violent Crime. The juvenile has been charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine.

The estimated street value of the drugs was $1500 according to the release.

On July 7, 2005 the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department also arrested Joshua Devar Gordon, 21, at a residence in Edgefield and has charged him with Trafficking Crack Cocaine and resisting arrest. The estimated street value of drugs recovered was said to be $800.

Sheriff Dobey said, “These arrests are just part of our continuing effort to keep drugs off of our streets. I would encourage all citizens to contact the Sheriff’s Office if they have any information on illegal drug activity or any other criminal activity,” in the release.
