Burglars make off with over $4,500 of insecticide

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted July  13, 2005

JOHNSTON - On Monday, July 11, around 10:30 am Titan Peach Farms manager Jason Rogers reported a break-in to the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department of a storage building on the property. The thief, or thieves, cut a section of the fence and rolled it back in order to allow a truck of some sort to be backed inside the fenced area.

Missing from the storage building was 720 pounds of Imidan 70-W, an insecticide used by local growers to combat an assortment of pests. According to the product safety sheet protective gear and respirators are to be worn when dealing with the insecticide or managing spills. The active ingredient of Imidan 70-W is Phosmet phithalimide.

According to police reports the storage shed was broken into and a pallet of the insecticide was moved with a fork lift to the opening that had been cut in the fence. Tire tracks were observed crossing the fence line to where the forklift appeared to have gotten stuck. Investigator Doran said they have fingerprinted the fork lift and other areas of the crime scene.

The water soluble insecticide was valued at $4,572 and damage to the fence was estimated to be around $300. Calls to Mr. Rogers have not been returned at this writing.
