Watchful neighbor's report results in
arrest, recovery of stolen vehicle Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 2, 2005 SWEETWATER - A report of a suspicious vehicle led to the arrest of one individual and the recovery of a stolen vehicle from last week. On July 21, 2005 Debra Plunkett of Macedonia Road reported her 1992 Chevy Blazer had been stolen. According to police reports Mrs. Plunkett and her husband returned home from work to find the vehicle missing. The truck had been left unlocked and the keys were left in the ignition. On Saturday night around 7:10 pm a report of a suspicious vehicle came in to dispatchers that a Blue Blazer was spotted at a home on Macedonia Road by a neighbor that claimed the owners of the home were out of town. Deputies responded to the scene and located the vehicle on the 100 block of Macedonia Road and Andre Henry Poitra, 26, of the 2400 block of Sparks Road in Augusta, Ga. was sitting in the driver’s seat. A records check discovered the truck had been reported stolen and Mr. Poitra was taken into custody. Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered a 9 mm handgun and a pocket knife. Mr. Poitra has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of an unlawful pistol. The Edgefield County Sheriff's Department, along with the contribution of citizens, continues to solve most of our area criminal cases in quick fashion. It is this type of cooperation that Sheriff Adell Dobey has said would lead the way in "proactive law enforcement," and that seems to be proving true. Most observers of law enforcement stand amazed at the number of calls and cases the Sheriff's Department, and other agencies, handle on a daily basis. Return to Main Page
