Search for Marion Key continues Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 18, 2005 MERRIWETHER – Almost five weeks after Marion Key went missing family members continue their search. Mr. Key, 74, was last seen on July 12 leaving his job at Wal-Mart in North Augusta due to feeling ill. He never arrived home and police, family, and community residents began their search for him. Now, almost five weeks later, no new leads have surfaced and local law enforcement agencies have called off intensive searches that lead to no clues in the disappearance. Family members, however, continue to distribute flyers in hopes of jogging anyone’s memory of residents. “We have made up flyers and are distributing them to towing companies in hopes someone would remember towing the car,” Mrs. Melba Key said. “It is one thing for a car to go missing, or a person, but for a car and a person to go missing and have no sign of either one is unusual,” Mrs. Key said. Edgefield County Deputies are still operating on a BOLO (Be on the look out) for either the car or Mr. Key. Mrs. Key said family members have returned home and she has returned to her job at the same Wal-Mart store in North Augusta. “I try to keep busy,” she said. In addition to returning to work Mrs. Key said she has returned to signing with the musical group the Sweet Adeline’s. The family got a call that brought a lot of attention from Lexington Mrs. Key said, “a tow truck driver called and said he had towed a 1993 red Geo Metro around the time (Mr. Key) went missing.” A check of the VIN number showed it was not Mr. Key’s car and had actually been towed a day or two before the disappearance. Below is the 1993 Red Geo Metro Mr. Key was driving Mrs. Key said she holds on to the hope that he could still turn up in a hospital somewhere and his identity is unknown or not released due to the Privacy Act, “you just never know, you have to hold on to hope.” She said the family has been through every “what if” scenario and just cannot make anything fit the situation. “It is very frustrating at times,” Mrs. Key said. Neither the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department or the North Augusta Public Safety offices have any new information but continue to look for Mr. Key. Anyone with information is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625
