Snodgrass surrenders to authorities Wednesday

web posted August 27, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Within hours of Johnnie Lee Snodgrass’ information and wanted status hitting the local and surrounding media, the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls. Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said Wednesday morning that family members called and stated Snodgrass would turn himself in at the Detention Center later in the day. True to their word, he arrived at the jail shortly before 6 pm, Inv. Doran said.

Mr. Snodgrass has been charged with one count of criminal sexual conduct on a minor in the first degree. Due to the age of the victim, a 5-year-old child, the charge can carry up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

The details of the August 13 incident are not being released to the public in order to protect the victim’s identity and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Jail officials said Wednesday night that Mr. Snodgrass continues to be held at the Edgefield County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
