Press release

EDGEFIELD - Edgefield County Sheriff Adell Dobey was one out of fourteen Sheriffs and Chiefs throughout the United States that was recently selected by the Rural Executive Management Institute to serve on its National Focus Group. The meeting was held on September 7-9, 2005, in St. Louis Missouri. The groups focus was to help determine the training needs of rural law enforcement executives throughout the country.

The Rural Executive Management Institute was started in 1995 with its purpose being to make training for rural law enforcement executives both affordable and obtainable. The Rural Executive Management Institute is a subsidiary of the National Center for Rural Law Enforcement which is federally funded that offer Sheriffs' Office training with the population of 50,00 or less and police departments training that have a population of 25,000 or less for free. This includes reimbursement for transportation, lodging, and meals. Some of the training classes offered are Forensics and DNA in rural agencies, Managing Rural Departments, Recruiting and Retention, Crisis Management in Rural Communities, and Rural Sexual Assault Management.

Sheriff Dobey is a 2004 Graduate of the Rural Executive Management Institute and has recently completed a course in Rural Sexual Assault Management which was offered by the National Center for Rural Law Enforcement. Sheriff Dobey says, "I was honored to be selected to serve on the National Focus Group. I think the center offers a lot of training in areas that are beneficial for rural law enforcement agencies with budget restraints."
