Sheriff’s Office launches website today complete with 36 pages of wanted individuals

web posted September 23, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County Sheriff Adell Dobey announced Tuesday the launching of the Sheriff’s Office official website that will be “an information hub for the community as well as a tool for fighting crime.” Included in the information available on the website is a Most Wanted list as well as a 36-page “active warrant list” that is updated at least once a week.

The website, which has been under development for several months, also provides citizens with crime prevention tips, frequently asked questions, information on all divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, a sex offender registry, and civil process and background check fees.

“The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office will make every effort to provide links and services available to the citizens of Edgefield County and surrounding communities through this site,” a press release issue Tuesday said.

Corporal Sonny Reel developed the website and said it has actually been online for a few weeks, “we just didn’t announce it while it was being tweaked.”

Producing a warrant list online has been very successful for Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt resulting in a number of individuals turning themselves in for warrants they did not know were issued for their arrest.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to get a similar response.

Although a large number of those listed are wanted for misdemeanors ranging from trespassing to bad checks, the list also includes many felony warrants that range from General Sessions Court bench warrants to attempted murder, complete with pictures of those wanted.

Sheriff Dobey has also made the website an important tool in fighting crime by providing citizens a way to email tips of possible criminal activity or wanted individuals in their communities. Citizens using the website to report crime can rest assured that all information provided will be held strictly confidential.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office website can be found here. A direct link will also be placed on the Headlines page of EdgefieldDaily.com for easy access.
