Sex offender arrested for failure to register

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted September 24, 2005

EDGEFIELD – A registered sex offender who failed to register, for two years, was arrested Wednesday afternoon Edgefield Sheriff Investigator Randy Doran said. Alonzo Chinn Jr., 33, of 287 Virgil Wall Road, Edgefield, was booked into the Detention Center for failing to register each year as required as a condition of his release.

“He turned himself in once he found out we were looking for him,” Investigator Doran said. “He thought once he served out his probation he was done with it all,” and that Mr. Chinn was very cooperative with authorities. The last time Mr. Chinn registered was on February 17, 2003. He was released on his own recognizance and will face the charge in General Sessions Court.

All registered sex offenders are required to contact the local sheriff’s department and register as being a sex offender in the county in which they live as a condition of their release each year. If they move out of the county, or state, they have 30 days to reregister in the county they relocated to. Failing to register results in their arrest.
