Discovery of body turned over to Edgefield
County Sheriff's Department Edgefielddaily.com web posted September 29, 2005 EDGEFIELD – The recent discovery of the remains of a black female on the county line between Edgefield and Aiken Counties has resulted in the investigation being turned over to the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office by Aiken County Officials late Tuesday. The discovery of a badly decomposed body of a 5 foot tall black female by area hunters initially were thought to be in Aiken County. As the investigation continued it was determined that the body was located in Edgefield County and the investigation was handed off to Sheriff Dobey on Wednesday. The body, believed to that of Rosa "Duke" McKevie, who was last seen while taking a walk on August 25th. The autopsy has shown no signs of foul play Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton stated. Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett was being briefed on the case Wednesday In earlier conversations regarding the case when it was believed to be an Aiken County matter, A source close to the case said he considered the discovery a homicide case, “she didn’t walk there from Aiken,” he said. The area is a remote location at the Edgefield County and Aiken County line near Trenton many miles away from her reported last location. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department took control of the scene and expanded the search for evidence in the area on Wednesday. The status of the case has not been defined by Sheriff Dobey awaiting the investigation by his department. Sheriff Dobey and Investigators were unavailable for comment today due to the search for evidence in the new case.
