web
posted September 30, 2008
COUNTY – Edgefield
County Sheriff’s
Sergeant Elijah Harris was named Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of
the Year by The Military Order of World Wars last week. Sgt. Harris has
worked with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years and was
honored at a dinner ceremony in Augusta, Georgia, by the Order.
The award, presented by Richard E. Herdegen, Lt. USN (Ret.) and Chair
of the Law and Order Committee, notes Sgt. Harris’ contributions to the
Sheriff’s Office, Relay for Life, and even to the inmates he oversees
at the Edgefield County Detention Center.
“You are commendable for going out of your way to help your Relay for
Life Team in the annual effort to raise money for cancer research.
Having survived your own battle with cancer,” the proclamation read in
part.
“Your love for your job and your care and concern for the inmates in
your care, and your fellow officers is commendable, and reflects a
great credit upon yourself, Edgefield County, and the State of South
Carolina.”
