Sheriff Dobey warns against littering web posted October 13, 2006 The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office has taken over the position of litter control for the whole county. Our litter control officer position is a class 1 certified law enforcement officer that can investigate incidents, write tickets and make arrest of violators. Our litter control officer will be out 5 days a week, weather permitting, with county trustees picking up trash. They will be in a white marked van. We do not pick up trash on private property, but on major highways, secondary roads and parks. We appreciate the warden of our state prison and his officers and work crew who has helped us with trouble spots and with maintaining the main highways. Also we would like to give credit to "Palmetto Pride", the volunteer organization that promotes educated awareness and solutions to the problem of littering in our state. We work along with the department of health and environmental Control (DHEC) on concerns such as illegal dumping of toxic waste or chemicals, to include household garbage, in our ponds, rivers, creeks, etc. We encourage citizens to call in to our office to report violations of our state littering laws. Any information that you can give us will be helpful, such as color, make, model, or tag number of vehicles driven by persons littering on our highways or dumping trash in areas of our county. Sheriff Dobey says all deputies will be watching for littering from vehicles; trash, beer cans, cigarette butts, etc. on our highways and in our public parks. All violators will be prosecuted. Anyone having knowledge of areas where trash is being dumped illegally, please contact the sheriff's office for clean up and an investigative resolution. We are proud of our state - we are proud of our county - lets work together to keep our roads and land free of litter. For
