Serial gas thieves arrested?

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted October 25, 2005

EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Sheriff’s Office believes they have apprehended a serial gas thief with an arrest on Friday afternoon. Several times over the last two weeks area gas stations have reported a blue Ford Focus that has been filling up with gas and then leaving without paying. Kent’s Korner has been hit twice with reports listed on October17 and again on October 20. A third attempt was foiled as Deputy Jimmy Smith apprehended the individuals involved.

Arrested in the alleged thefts were Tara Akers, 27, and Jeffery Robert Pugh, 47, both of Michigan. The blue Ford Focus had tags that did not belong to the car when the two were stopped after attempting to drive off with more gas.

Mr. Pugh was arrested on charges of petit larceny and Ms. Akers was charged with petit larceny, operating an uninsured vehicle, and improper vehicle license. Investigators said the pair was visiting family in the Trenton area. There are possibly more charges pending the outcome of the investigation to determine if they are also the ones who stole gas from the Northside BP station in a car that matched the description.
