Edgefield Sheriff’s Office
is seeking the public’s help in locating a wanted man accused of
molesting a ten-year-old Edgefield County girl. Howard Russell Bodie,
56, may be in the lower Edgefield County area or the western end of
Aiken County. Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said a warrant
for Mr. Bodie’s arrest has been issued.Inv. Doran said he was contacted by the child’s doctor when she learned of the alleged molestation during a routine check-up. Inv. Doran began the investigation in early October. Mr. Bodie, who lived in the home with the child, was advised to leave the home while the investigation continued and he complied. Once enough evidence was collected a warrant for Mr. Bodie’s arrest was issued and Mr. Bodie has been evasive ever since by giving a phone number that was useless and addresses he claimed to be staying at were of no use. The persons living at the various addresses said they have not seen Bodie. Mr. Bodie is sought for a charge of criminal sexual conduct on a minor under the age of 12, which is a felony. “We hoped he would turn himself in,” Inv. Doran said and when that did not happen his photo and information was released in an effort to make the arrest. Doran said he might be in the Mt. Morenci area of Aiken County where he has family or in the lower part of Edgefield County. Bodie is described as a white male, 56 years of age, 5’ 7” tall weighing approximately 125 pounds. Anyone with information on Mr. Brodie’s whereabouts is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. ©
