Dumb crook repeats crime

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted October 28, 2005

EDGEFIELD – Under the heading of dumb crooks is a man that has already been arrested for theft of a check and forgery that has now been found passing off another check from the same theft. A Trenton man who had already been the victim of a previous forgery resulting from theft of checks from his checkbook was notified that he had an outstanding bad check at an Edgefield grocery store.

Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigator Chris Aston observed the check and noted it was the next in sequence from the last forgery the Edgefield man had been arrested for forging. In addition the check had the same handwriting as the last he was charged for. The last check was passed at a popular Trenton gas station.

The stolen check was written for $45.00 and the owner of the store said there was a $30.00 return check fee for a total in the forgery of $75.00. An affidavit of forgery has been filed with the man’s bank and a warrant is being sought in the arrest of the man identified as the suspect. Until his arrest we will not print his name in the event he may seek to elude officers.
