Edgefield County Sheriff's Office seizes  over $54,000 in cash during raid

Edgefield - The Edgefield County Sheriffs Office S.W.A.T. Team executed a search warrant at 31 Sandy Run Road, Trenton, SC on October 23, 2005 for illegal alcohol.

As a result of that raid Officers arrested James Albert Lee, 62, of Trenton, SC who was charged with Illegal Possession of Alcohol. Sheriff's Deputies also arrested Robert Lee Cooks, 60, of Newberry, SC. Several others were charged with Unlawful Games and Betting (Gambling).

Officers seized a total of $54,917.26 in cash at the residence along with a large amount of illegal alcohol. The case is still under investigation and more charges may be pending the Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff Dobey said in a prepared statement, "I encourage all citizens to report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood. Any tips that are made to the Edgefield County Sheriffs Office will be kept anonymous. Citizens can help by being extra eyes and ears for law enforcement. A strong partnership between law enforcement and the community can help prevent and solve crimes."

Investigator's declined to say what led to the search warrant. EdgefieldDaily.com will continue to follow this story as it develops and the names of the individuals additionally arrested will be posted when they are made pubic.

The illegal alcohol was believed to be "moonshine" or "bootleg liquor". Several bottles containing the alcohol were confiscated in addition to 44 Budweisers and 68 Bud Lights.
