One man shot in head during gunfight Sunday night
web posted November 21, 2005
Secondary crime scene at Town and Country Store     EdgefieldDaily.com

TRENTON – Gunfire erupted Sunday evening off Casalina Drive and then again at the Town and Country Store at the corner of Brightharp Road and Highway 25 leaving one man shot in the head. The calls for help continued onward to the new Greg’s Gas Plus at the corner of Sweetwater Road and Highway 25 where the event ended.

The victim of the shooting was said to have picked his girlfriend up off of Five Notch Road and proceeded to a home off Casalina Drive where several people were standing around the home around 7:00 pm. The girlfriend entered the house and left her boyfriend outside with several men. About ten or fifteen minutes later she heard several gunshots and came out to see her boyfriend running down the road. She jumped in her car and picked him up and then went to the Town and Country Store. Once there the man ran inside the store, already suffering from the gunshot wound to the head, and began reloading his weapon, believed to be a .380 automatic pistol.

According to witnesses the man went back out the door and more gunshots rang out as the clerk at the store dialed 9-1-1 to report a man shot. As Edgefield County Deputies and EMS arrived on the scene they received the reports of the man now being at Greg’s Gas Plus and at least one vehicle following the man and his girlfriend. The following vehicle left the area as Aiken County Deputies arrived on the scene. The man was able to walk and was placed on a backboard from a standing position and transported to MCG Trauma Unit in Augusta for treatment.

The man had one apparent gunshot wound to the head that hit him just above the nose and over the center of his eyes and exited a few inches away above his eye in a glancing shot rather than a frontal entry. “He was very lucky,” one the scene said.

Shell casings were found at the front of the store and others were being sought at the first crime scene off Casalina Drive. Investigators are still working the scenes at this time. One of the suspects was said to be driving a small black two door car and another vehicle was described as a white SUV. A third vehicle was said to be a green or tan Capri with 21 inch wheels. Police continued their search for suspects in the shooting.

Names were provided to the Sheriff's Office as to the identity of those possibly involved. The last report of the victim from MCG was said to be thatt he, "would be OK," and he was being discharged around 10:42 pm and was to be meeting with investigators shortly afterwards.

It is unknown at this time if any others were struck during the gun fights that took place at the two locations. The investigation is ongoing. Surveillance video was retrieved from the Town and Country Store and will be reviewed by investigators.

EdgefieldDaily.com will have an update Tuesday as more information becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625.
