Arrest made in steel tank thefts

web posted November 28, 2007
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said Tuesday that they have arrested one man in connection to the November 17 theft of four large stainless steel tanks from a Trenton company. The tanks were discovered in Richmond County on 3000 block of Deans Bridge Road after a tipster saw a repeat of EdgefieldDaily.com’s report on a local television news broadcast. Charged in the theft was Teddy Jeff Miller, 22, of the 2400 block of Wrightsboro Road in Augusta.

Mr. Miller turned himself in to authorities Tuesday afternoon accompanied by his attorney Inv. Doran said. Miller faces a charge of grand larceny for the theft and destruction of three of the tanks before being recovered. “He had one of the tanks completely cut up and they were working on two others when we found them,” Doran said.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office was aided by Richmond County Special Investigators in the case.

Inv. Doran said the investigation is ongoing and that additional arrests and charges are possible in the case. “Right now we’re still investigating it and we’ll know more after we interview Mr. Miller.”

Miller was booked into the Edgefield County Detention Center just after noon Tuesday and was released on a total of $27,500 surety bonds.

If convicted Mr. Miller could face ten years in prison for the alleged crime. He may also be facing felony charges in Augusta-Richmond County as a result of the alleged theft Inv. Doran said.
