Accused flim-flamer possibly strikes again
web
posted December 14, 2007
EDGEFIELD –
Edgefield County’s most
prolific flim-flamer may have struck again, this time at the Wal-Mart
in Aiken on Wednesday. According to Edgefield Sheriff’s Chief Inv.
Randy Doran the method used in the flim-flam and the description were
similar. The man identified in the Edgefield County cases is Tyrone
Eugene Reid, 40, of Augusta, Georgia. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Office currently holds five warrants for Reid’s arrest. The Johnston
and Edgefield Police Departments are also holding warrants as well as
other agencies in the CSRA. “He gets around,” Doran said.
“He’s got quite an extensive criminal history,” Doran said previously,
including “multiple charges of theft by deception.” Reid has also
served three years in prison for a voluntary manslaughter conviction in
November of 1989.
Reid is accused of getting cashiers
to make change for a $100 bill and then switching the $20 bills
given in change with $1 bills in a slight of hand move. “He’s been
pretty successful,” Doran said, estimating Reid could be making
hundreds of dollars a day. “He’s doubling his money 90% of the time.”
Reports of a suspect fitting Reid’s crime and description stretch from
Atlanta, to Aiken, and possibly Columbia.
Anyone with information to Mr. Reid’s whereabouts is asked to call the
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. You
can remain anonymous.
Swindling, if convicted, carries a fine set at the discretion of the
judge plus refunding the aggrieved party double the amount of the loss.
Upon conviction the fine, costs, and repayment of the loss must be paid
at once. If unable to produce the sum, the person is to be confined not
more than six months.
