Accused flim-flam artist arrested in Richmond County
web
posted December 15, 2007
EDGEFIELD – The
prolific flim-flam artist
wanted across Edgefield County has been arrested Friday night,
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said early
Saturday morning. “They (Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputies) picked him
up on a traffic stop Friday night.” Tyrone Eugene Reid, 40, of Augusta,
Georgia was reportedly still being held in Augusta Richmond County due
to several warrants from Edgefield County, Edgefield, Johnston, and
Saluda.
Inv. Doran said that they were hoping to have Mr. Reid brought to
Edgefield County to face the pending charges and he would be meeting
with the Solicitor’s Office on Monday to make that happen.
Reid is accused of a series of
flim-flams in Edgefield County where he
gives a cashier a $100 bill and then claims to be short-changed after
swapping $20 bills given in change by the cashier with $1 bills he
keeps in his left hand. Though dozens of incidents have been reported,
only seven have been formally charged by local law enforcement
agencies.
The most recent report came on Wednesday when Reid was suspected in a
similar scam at the Wal-Mart on Richland Avenue in Aiken.
It is unknown if Aiken County has open or pending warrants on Mr. Reid.
