  Deputy, detainee uninjured in crash web posted December 29, 2006 COUNTY – An Edgefield County Deputy and a man in custody were uninjured in a crash Christmas night in Merriwether involving the patrol car the deputy was driving. The crash occurred on Wilderness Trail in very foggy conditions as the man in custody began “acting out” in the back seat – distracting the deputy. The patrol Car ran off the road and struck a tree. The damage to the patrol car was minimal and listed at $500. However, EMS was called to the scene to transport the man in custody to MCG to be checked for injuries. Once at MCG the man, who ran from deputies to escape arrest and had to be forcibly taken into custody after charging one of the deputies, continued to fight with medical personnel at MCG and MCG Police. He was later transported to the Detention Center and booked on charges from the previous incident and for resisting arrest. For
