Fox
Creek Charter School vandalized over Christmas break
web posted December 30, 2005 MERRIWETHER – Workers at Fox Creek Charter High School in Merriwether discovered all the windows in the weight room had been broken out when they arrived at 2:21 pm on Wednesday. In addition a window to a teacher’s class was also broken which led school personnel to think the event was targeted towards that particular teacher. Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigator Phil Ireland investigated the scene and found that the perpetrators had first tried to break the windows using fireworks. When that did not work they used a “long object such as a pipe or a baseball bat” police reports stated. No evidence of any object being thrown through the windows was found. The teacher arrived and spoke with Investigator Ireland and gave him the names of some juveniles. Investigator Ireland talked to the manager of Fox Creek Junction, which is a fireworks store next door to the school, and asked if the fireworks had been purchased there. The manager remembered selling some to a group of people because the item does not sell very well and he believes he is the only one to sell the fireworks. The man also stated he and some employees had set some fireworks off in the parking lot the night before around 9:00 pm and did not notice any of the windows broken at that time. The manager provided a copy of the surveillance tape to the police and the matter is still under investigation. Damage estimates were listed at $4,000. For
