Guns a hot item in recent burglaries
web posted December 31, 2005

MERRIWETHER – A Currytown Road resident called the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department to report that his home had been broken into Thursday afternoon. Upon arriving home around 5:00 pm  the man found his back door had been broken into and later discovered almost $4,000 worth of guns and jewelry had been stolen.

Sheriff’s Deputy Al Moore responded to the call and found the door hand been “kicked in” and other guns had been left on the couch during the crime. The burglar(s) made off with a 9 mm Taurus pistol, a .45 caliber CVA muzzle loaded rifle, an antique Model 90 (.22 caliber) rifle, a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip stock barrel, and a gold bangle bracelet.

The case has been handed over to investigators for follow up. Fingerprints and other evidence were taken from the crime scene.

In Trenton, on the same night, a shotgun was stolen from a pick-up truck between the hours of 1:00 am and 6:00 am Thursday morning at a Tower View Road home. The gun was described as a New England Firearm 20 gauge shotgun.

All weapons were placed on the NCIC with their serial numbers.
