Maxwell Luchie Darnell, 22, of Trenton was arrested by Aiken Public Safety Officers in relation to a shootout that occurred at Ballagio, a local Aiken bar on York Street in Aiken on Saturday morning around 2:15 am. Mr. Darnell and Jimmy Maurice Carter, 26, of Aiken are charged with exchanging gunfire outside the bar among other charges which are said to be pending.

According to reports an officer stated he witnessed Mr. Carter fire a “sawed-off shotgun” at a vehicle driven by Mr. Darnell who returned fire from his white Lincoln Navigator The confrontation, according to witnesses, began inside the club and escalated to gunfire after the two men took the argument “outside”. Reports are that the two were involved in a crash of the vehicles which damaged each man’s car in the parking lot.

Mr. Crater was arrested on the scene and Mr. Darnell tried to leave the scene but was apprehended before he could escape.

Police said Mr. Darnell suffered a wound to his to the right side of his face and Mr. Carter suffered a gunshot wound to his left thigh and his buttocks. There were two bullet holes in Mr. Darnell’s vehicle and the back window was shot out police said. Police also said they found a box of shotgun shells in the vehicle driven by Mr. Carter which was parked across the street that matched the shells used in the shooting.

Both men were taken to MCG for treatment of their wounds. Hospital workers declined to comment on the treatment or condition of either man citing privacy laws.
