COUNTY – The Strom Thurmond Golf Team took
the Lower State Golf Championship on Monday and will now advance to the
State Championship in Myrtle Beach next week. The Rebels took the title
with a one stroke advantage over Chapin High School with a total score
of 302. The Rebels were the only team competing with females on the
team.

Dixie Youth Baseball field saw
some changes over the past week with the Johnston Orioles staying
undefeated in minor league play and the Johnston Red Sox gaining ground
with a four game winning streak that has placed them atop the standings
with the Edgefield Mariners and Braves just one game behind the lead in
major league play.

Red Sox improved in the major league with two impressive wins this week

STHS soccer teams traveled to Prosperity to compete with Mid-Carolina.
The junior varsity team scored first with a goal from Edgar Gonzalez,
with as assist by Dalton Lalonde. Mid-Carolina scored with only minutes
to play to bring the game to a 1-1 tie.

SPORTS – The Lady Rebels of Strom
Thurmond came up on the short end of a 7-1 softball road decision
against Fox Creek Thursday. Both teams had trouble on defense with a
combined 12 errors, but the Lady Predators were able to score runs off
the Thurmond miscues. Strom Thurmond scored in the top of the first,
but Fox Creek came right back with three in the bottom of the inning.
Fox Creek added four insurance runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Annual Heritage Classic Tournament on Saturday, February 23rd. The
Rebels defeated Silver Bluff High School 4-3 in penalty kicks (PK) that
went to sudden death. Derek Vaughn, a sophomore, scored the wining PK.

“It was scary.”

JOHNSTON – Four student athletes signed
scholarships to play college football in the Strom Thurmond High School
Media Center Wednesday to officially put a wrap on the Rebels' 2007
campaign. A large group of family, friends, print and broadcast media
were there to witness the event. The Rebels finished last season with a
record of 8-5 losing in the third round of the Class AAA playoffs. The
school will drop down to the AA classification this year.

over Laurens Academy. The varsity boys were 49-40 winners over Aiken
Christian, 57-29 victors over Aiken Prep, and edged Laurens Academy

Laney Memorial Stadium was preparing for overtime with Strom Thurmond
when Cameron Stallings found Courtney Roundtree on an 11-yard touchdown
