SPORTS- The playoffs couldn’t have opened any better for the Strom Thurmond Rebels.  A quick three and out forced by the Blue Steel defense provided Strom Thurmond the ball at Mid Carolina’s 45 yard line.  Two plays later Chad Gilchrist trotted into the endzone on an 11 yard touchdown run set up by a 34 yard Deandre Ryan reception.  Lawson Reel’s point after put the home team up 7-0 with 10:10 to go in the opening quarter.

SPORTS – The Strom Thurmond Rebels begin their 2015 campaign this Saturday when they travel to Laurens High School for six team scrimmage. Kickoff starts at 10:00am and the public is invited. On Tuesday night August 11th Strom Thurmond travels to Newberry for a scrimmage with a kickoff of 6:00pm and then the Rebels wrap up the preseason with a visit to the Clinton Jamboree Friday night August 14th at 6:00pm.

SPORTS – The Palmetto Predators are proud to announce their Runner-Up title at the USSSA Global World Series in North Charleston June 26-28, 2015. The Predators are a 10U AA Baseball Team made up of players from North Augusta, Midland Valley and Edgefield and have only been together for 16 months. This was their first World Series venture in which their tireless efforts and months of practice and competition paid off.

From the first pitch, Edgefield County struggled to do much of anything right and when the game was over, Abbeville had walked away with a 9-2 win. The one bright spot for ECDYB was pitcher Kevin Ortega. For 3 innings Ortega would hold Abbeville to 4 hits, but defensive errors would negate his work.

SPORTS - GREENWOOD – On the 72nd hole of the biggest tournament on Tour, Alejandra Llaneza (Mexico City, Mexico) hit the greenside bunker shot of her life to leave herself a tap in birdie to win the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic in Greenwood by one stroke on Sunday. Llaneza carded a 1-under 71 to finish at 10-under 278, just edging Casey Grice (College Station, Texas), who closed at 9-under 279 and made par on the final hole.

SPORTS – The Strom Thurmond boys varsity soccer team came up short for the second game in a row as they lost to Ninety-Six 4-3 on penalties. The Rebels were helped by goals from Cole Fell and Alex Vera as the team put the game into overtime after trailing 2-1 at half time.

For Coach Pace, who will lose her starting shortstop, first baseman, catcher and center fielder to graduation later this spring, the emergence of several young Rebels has to leave her feeling good about the future.

SPORTS – For Taylor Driggers, her first error of the night couldn't of come at a worse time.  After playing perfect defense for 6 innings, the 7th grader "booted" a routine ground ball with her team clinging to a 4-2 lead in the last inning of play.  Driggers, was about to grow up fast and bring her Rebel teammates along for the ride.
