must avoid serious injuries, work hard during off-season, develop
effective game plans each week that plays to their advantage, stay

SPORTS – When early August rolled around
and high school football was getting underway, many experts and
prognosticators circled Woodruff and Strom Thurmond to meet in the
Upper State Title game, with both possibly being undefeated. At the
Clinton jamboree each team walked past the other with only silent
stares being passed as Woodruff exited the field from their scrimmage
against Laurens and Thurmond entered for their match up with Clinton;
both handled their larger opponents on that warm August night. The
silent interaction spoke volumes as it appeared there was a sizing-up
from each for the potential heavyweight bout to come deep in the
playoffs.
