Lady Pats go 22-0 for season

web posted February 11, 2008
JOHNSTON – Both Wardlaw Academy basketball teams concluded their regular basketball seasons with a pair of wins this week. The Lady Patriots finished at 22-0 with a 36-16 win over Long Cane on Tuesday and 48-35 victory over the CSRA Warriors on Friday.

Elizabeth Stone scored 15 points to lead Wardlaw in the Long Cane win while teammate Kristina Graves added 10 points. Amber Bussey scored 10 points for Long Cane who fell to 5-9 on the season with the loss.

In the game with the CSRA Lady Warriors, Wardlaw raced out to a 30-16 lead at the end of the first half. They almost lost that lead while only scoring three points in the third quarter, but regained momentum in the fourth to claim the victory.

Graves scored 16 to lead the Lady Patriots. Lydia Erdett had a game-high 21 points in a losing cause for the Lady Warriors.

The Wardlaw boys' team opened their week with a convincing 66-22 victory over Long Cane before closing with a 56-37 win over the CSRA Warriors on Friday.

In the Long Cane, head coach Travis Plowden got production from his bench as 11 Patriots got on the scoreboard. Travis Gagnon scored 15 points to lead three Patriots in double figures. Justin Ouzts and Coty Courtney finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Kai Jenia scored 14 points to lead Long Cane who dropped to 0-14 on the season with the loss.

Against the Warriors, Wardlaw jumped out to a 17-point lead at the end of the first half. They stretched that margin to 25 points after three quarters and cruised to the victory.
Ross Williams had a game and season high 22 points for the Patriots who improved to 16-6 with the victory. Kip Custer finished with 12 points to lead the Warriors.

Both Wardlaw teams will be back on the court when they participate in the region tournament at Newberry College starting on February 16.
