Lady Patriot's hold opponents scoreless
web
posted March 31, 2008
EDGEFIELD – The home team rolled through
the opposition at the Lady Patriot Invitational softball tournament
Saturday. Wardlaw's pitchers did not give up a run and allowed only
four hits in winning their three games.
In the first contest, the Lady Patriots downed Jefferson Davis 11-0 in
five innings. They scored three in the first and second innings before
adding a run in the third. Wardlaw closed out the contest with a
four-run fifth. Skylar Eargle was the winning pitcher. She was
supported on offense by Kristina Graves who tripled, singled and drove
in two runs as well as McKenzie Parrish who drove in three runs.
In the second game Wardlaw blasted Augusta Christian 14-0. An eight run
second blew the game open. Wardlaw added four insurance runs in the
third and two more in the fourth. Parrish had a double and triple to
help the offense in that game.
In the third game, Wardlaw squared off with Holly Hill Academy the
sixth ranked team in the state SCISA AA polls. Lady Patriot head coach
Ron Conley said he was a bit concerned, but there was no reason to be
as Wardlaw won 6-0 behind a 12 strikeout one hit performance by
Parrish. Katelyn Rearden went 2-4 with a double and single to lead the
Wardlaw offense in that game.
Conley said he was pleasantly surprised by the performance in the
tournament.
"I knew Holly Hill was going to be tough," he said. "This team
(Wardlaw) is young, but they're coming along."
The Lady Patriots entered the tournament on the heels of a 2-1 loss
against Fox Creek on Thursday. Wardlaw, now 4-1, is at Newberry Academy
on Thursday before participating in a tournament next weekend in Aiken.
