STH Soccer Team updates

web posted April 2, 2008
JOHNSTON – Last week the JV and Varsity STHS soccer teams traveled to Prosperity to compete with Mid-Carolina. The junior varsity team scored first with a goal from Edgar Gonzalez, with as assist by Dalton Lalonde. Mid-Carolina scored with only minutes to play to bring the game to a 1-1 tie.

Two 5 minute overtimes still ended with a tie. These players are still looking for their first win, but are making progress. In addition to those involved in scoring, Trent Miller had another outstanding defensive game.

The Varsity boys had a very aggressive game in the first half, with many players from both teams receiving “yellow cards” for inappropriate actions. The teams settled down for the second half, and the Rebels easily defeated Mid Carolina 6-0. Five players contributed to the scoring efforts, including a goal and an assist from sophomore Zack Moore and an assist from sophomore Derek Vaughn.

This week will see the varsity team play two region games. They will host Brooklyn Cayce on Tuesday, April 1, and will travel to Swansea on Friday, April 4.
