Patriots split Double Header with Andrew Jackson

web posted April 3, 2008
JOHNSTON – The Wardlaw Patrtiot Baseball team split a doubleheader on Tuesday  with Andrew Jackson Academy. The Patriots dropped the first game by a score of 7 - 2, but came back in the second game to dismantle AJA by a score of 12 - 4.

In the first game, AJA pitching held the Patriots to two hits over five innings, which came from Dillon Thomas and Jeffrey Holland. On defense, AJA scored its seven runs on five hits.

The second game, however, was a complete turnaround for Wardlaw. The Patriot bats came alive with twelve hits and the defense stepped up and turned two double plays.

On offense, Jordan Faust, Dillon Thomas, Tony Keenan, Andrew Medlock and Bailey Pendarvis each scored two runs for the Pats. Quintin Hayes went 3 for 4 at the plate with three doubles in the game. Thomas led the team with three RBIs. The Patriots scored seven runs over the first four innings and scored five more in the fifith inning.

On defense, Heath Barron originated both of the team's double plays. In the fourth inning, Barron caught a fly in left field and gunned it to first to catch the runner who had not returned to the base. Then, in the fifth inning, Barron caught another fly in left field and threw it to second base to catch another AJA runner off the bag.

On the mound, Quintin Hayes threw a complete game, allowing nine hits, walking two, but striking out eleven batters. Hayes has seventeen strike outs over fifteen and two-thirds innings on the season.

The Patriots will not return to play until Monday, April 14, after Spring Break when they return to region play hosting Aiken Christian. The Patriots are now 4 - 6 on the season and 3 - 2 in their region.
