Jacob Bass Named MVP of South 3A/2A Team at North-South Allstar Game

web posted June 19, 2014

SPORTS – Former Strom Thurmond standout Jacob Bass was named MVP of the South 3A/2A team after an outstanding performance last weekend at the North-South Allstar Baseball games in Myrtle Beach at the Cal Ripken Experience. On Friday night, Bass’s team beat the 3A/2A North team by a score of 9-2 and on Saturday morning they beat the 4A/1A South team, winning the two day event.

An invitation to this event, which is considered the Shrine Bowl of South Carolina High School baseball, is not easily earned.  The top seniors from around the state are first nominated, and then a committee selects the best of the nominations to participate.

A shortstop during his career at Strom Thurmond, Bass played 2nd base and centerfield over the two days, seeing the field in every inning of both games.  He went 7-9 from the batter’s box.  Coaches for the South 3A/2A team were Tracy Fleming (Bamberg-Ehrhardt) and Mike Darnell (Bishop England).

Bass, a Newberry commit, is only the second Strom Thurmond player to ever be selected to the North-South Baseball Allstar Game, Josh Wilson was the first.
